SMALL GROUP DISCIPLESHIP

Madison Group meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Rutledge/Newborn Group meets every other Thursday evening, 6:00pm - 8:00pm

On the first Wednesday of each month, all groups meet together at the church.

We will gather weekly for churchwide worship and fellowship.  Worship draws us together to walk as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Even so, there is something special about an intimate gathering in a living room, or around a dining room table, or in a classroom, that helps us to think differently than when we're in a larger assembly.  We grow as disciples when we live in community with one another.  Scripture directs us to live in that way:

Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deceits.  Galatians 6:2

Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.  Hebrews 3:13

When we preach the Gospel to one another in a close-knit community, spiritual growth occurs.  We are changed individually and as a church. Jesus expects us to demonstrate such love for one another that even the world takes notice.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:  just as I have loved you,  you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.  John 13:34-35

We cannot learn to love each other and practice the "one anothers" of the New Testament from a distance.  The purpose of our small groups is to help us get close - to get to know one another and to pray for each other, for our church, and for others outside our church.

Ultimately, small group discussions are where much of the theology taught from the pulpit begins to be fleshed out in conversation and action.  The goal of small groups is to put talk into action.  Ideas for serving others can flow from those conversations.  Teams can be formed and activities organized from a group.  Such activity is refreshing, not tiresome.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.  So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.  Galatians 6:9-10

And let us consider how we may spur one another on to love and good deeds.  Hebrews 10:24

Discipleship is about walking intimately with Christ, living in community with one another, and serving others.
